Along with the “Future Life Expo: Future City” pavilion at the Expo 2025, we offer a “Virtual Mirai City” which is co-created with participant companies on a metaverse platform.
Through an avatar, you can explore a future with social issues solved and technologies to solve them. It is unlike what you can experience at the Expo site.
Guests including those who cannot visit the actual pavilion can experience the Future City drawn from the unique perspective of metaverse.

As society matures,
we face various social issues
that did not exist before.
How should we address them?
The answer lies with each of us
who will live in the future.
How do we tackle global warming?
What is it like remaining apolitical?
Don't you think the term “food loss”
makes us feel uncomfortable?
As we live towards the future,
by experiencing various phenomena
that we will encounter in the future,
we are thinking of
how we want to live,
what we want to be,
and what is “just right”
for each of us.
This is the entrance to
your well-being future.
Let's explore it together.
Experience the future,
and let's think about it together.
Experience the future,
and let's think about it together.
Participants have a mission “Mirai Research” to collect clues for ideal future visions while strolling in urban spaces. If they experience solutions for social issues, such as environmental problems, population decline, and labor shortage, in which the partner companies' technologies are utilized, participants' “Research Notebook” will be updated. Furthermore, they are eligible to get specially designed NFTs by submitting a final report after completing their Research Notebook.

Growing up in bustling and high-paced Tokyo, its ever-changing cityscape became Komura's original inner landscape. Even so, his fascination with the famous Tokyo Cathedral that exists consistently in the scenery led to his career as an architect. His graduation project, “The Great Tree of Machines and People - The Irony of the Akiba Spirit,” served as the prototype for the Araibashi Civic Forest, the symbol of the Virtual Mirai city. Now he designs redevelopment projects, research facilities, and offices at Mitsubishi Jisho Design, Inc. to continue his pursuit of creative spaces that connect people and towns
About this project
In supervising the creation of the “Virtual Mirai City” symbol tower, we have focused on “infrastructure,” which is directly linked to our lives yet rarely noticed.
As of 2025, city dwellers are often “users” of things produced in the suburbs.
We thought it might be fun to see what happens if we can “create” as well as “use” items within a city wall.
So we designed it as a symbol of our cities' new direction for the future.
“Virtual Mirai City” is not a vague fantasy but is filled with our hopes and dreams that make you say, “Oh, I want it to come true one of these days.”
Enjoy a stroll around the city and find visions you would love to see in your future and ideas that you hope to adopt in your own life.
Imaizumi is a fantasy cartographer who has been drawing imaginary maps (maps of imaginary cities full of reality) since he was seven years old. While at university, he traveled to 300 cities in 47 prefectures to study local landscapes. He designs maps, supervises geography, produces maps for TV dramas, deciphers lives through maps, and offers new ways to look at cities and convey information on maps. His imaginary maps are recognized as contemporary artworks and exhibited in museums nationwide.
Imaizumi is an author of five books, including “Deciphering Cities through a Sense of Maps (in Japanese).”
About this project
The map of the Virtual Mirai City aims to create a “realistic metropolitan/regional city sphere of life” that could exist anywhere in Japan, not a tourist spot or experimental city.
In the Virtual Mirai City, you may see the realistic everyday life of the near future.
The Virtual Mirai City lets you imagine your life in the future, not just a dream of it.
There are scenes with a big impact that surprise you and others that are easy to accept by today's standards.
Experience the everyday life of the future a little ahead of time in the Virtual Mirai City.
